Josh was born in Honolulu and still lives in Hawaii. He is an artist, composer and producer who sings Island Reggae, R&B and traditional Hawaiin music. Josh is a two time Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner and a 2018 Grammy nominee (Best Regional Roots Music Album for Pua Kiele) and has been given the nickname "The Tongan Luther".
Josh comes from a musical lineage, he has some big shoes to fill, as his father is Tivaini Tatofi, original member of the acclaimed island/reggae music band, Kapena. Josh doesn’t speak the Hawaiian language, so he writes his music in Tongan, his family’s native language, then in English, before enlisting the help of friends fluent in Hawaiian to translate. He wrote his first Hawaiian language song, ‘Pua Kiele’ – “not knowing once we released that song, that it would change my life forever,”. His 2016 debut album, also called Pua Kiele, would go on to win two Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards, Island Music Album of the Year, and the coveted Male Vocalist of the Year. His uniqueness of incorporating the R&B sound with the Polynesian music is what makes his sound different.
