MELODOWNZ is an Urban Poet / MC / Rapper from West Auckland. He is the first New Zealand artist to sign to the infamous Def Jam ANZ label in late 2019, and released his new single ‘No Mercy’ featuring Denzel Curry, putting NZ on the global stage. MELODOWNZ’ nature is personified in his name; the rapper is a mellow yet lethal MC on the mic. Melo has a unique take on rap, with a distinctive flow and delivery that can switch from hard hitting bars to soft, melodic hooks. He released his critically acclaimed debut EP Avontales in July 2017, the title a play on his hometown of Avondale. Melo has sold out nationwide tours, played the biggest festivals and opened for numerous international artists. In 2017 Melo embarked on Europe, playing shows in Berlin and London. He linked up with fellow kiwi artist Noah Slee and landed a spot on the renowned COLORS Berlin channel where he showcased a slick performance of ‘$on of a Queen’. Melo released his second solo EP Melo & Blues, in 2018, where he showcased his duality complex on the double sided body of work, featuring a guest appearance from prolific UK rapper Coops. In 2019 MELODOWNZ received a prestigious honour, which was the award for Philip Fuemana Most Promising Artist at the Pacific Music Awards.
An artist not to be ignored, MELODOWNZ is a Polynesian prophet in the making. Gaining recognition internationally and quickly becoming a hero in Aotearoa, MELODOWNZ is on a mission to share his wisdom with the world.
