Diggy Dupé has come a long way from teenage days spent making music with his cousin REDDXROZAY, using the most basic of tools: a Motorola phone and SingStar microphone.  He has become a core member of Tāmaki Makaurau’s hip hop community and is in demand as a featured artist.  His live performances include the Grey Lynn Festival, Nest Fest, That Weekend, Newtown Festival, Northern Bass and SIX60’s 2019 Western Springs with IllBaz. He’s performed alongside SWIDT, featured on David Dallas’ 64 Bars for Red Bull, and a support slot for US rapper Wiki.  Diggy Dupé was a finalist for Best Hip Hop Artist at the 2019 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards with his 2018 EP Island Time.  The 2020 release of Diggy’s debut album, That’s Me, That’s Team cemented the artist’s position in the local music industry.  This was his first full-length project, and it holds a special place for the emcee, who explains that, “It proved that I could go the distance and produce a solid body of work rather than just small EPs here and there.”
Diggy’s inspiration and stories are always about being a Central Auckland Polynesian kid. Family, his Niuean heritage, gentrification and identity are recurring themes throughout his releases. On the lead single from That’s Me, That’s Team, ‘Keke Boy’, Diggy switches between Niuean and English in an effort to familiarise his audience with his home language, and encourage them to also explore and uphold their heritage.
