Island Vibes

Island Vibes is a 9-piece band from Tāmaki Makaurau, bringing together musicians and vocalists of Samoan, Tongan, Niuean and Māori heritage through a shared passion for music, storytelling and performance.
Since forming in 2023 and led by Joanna Mika and Aisea Latu, the group has developed a sound shaped by soulful vocals, rich harmonies and live instrumentation. Their original music draws from personal experience and explores themes of family, faith, resilience and identity, with the intention of connecting people through honest storytelling and shared emotion.
All members of Island Vibes have been immersed in music and the performing arts from a young age, with many raised in families of musicians, singers, dancers and creatives. This foundation continues to influence their artistry, discipline and commitment to their craft.
The band has performed across Tāmaki Makaurau and internationally in Samoa and Niue, appearing at festivals, community celebrations, weddings, corporate events and live showcases. Island Vibes was also honoured to perform at the Auckland Arts Festival in both 2025 and 2026, marking important milestones in their journey within Aotearoa’s arts landscape.
Island Vibes is a collective of multi-disciplinary creatives, including music directors, sound editors, video editors, choreographers, producers, performing arts and music teachers. Members are also actors, theatre directors and dancers, bringing a wide range of skills and perspectives that strengthen both their live performances and creative output.
At its core, Island Vibes is driven by a belief in the power of music to uplift, unite and reflect everyday human experience. Through their work, the band hopes to encourage the next generation to step confidently into their creativity, stay grounded in their roots, and recognise the value of Pacific voices on every stage.
