ADVISORY PANEL - TERMS OF REFERENCE
BACKGROUND The Pacific Music Awards Trust (PMAT) created and now manages an annual music event that acknowledges the success of Pacific artists celebrates and promotes excellence in Pacific music and encourages young Pacific musicians to aspire to a higher level of achievement. From the inaugural Pacific Music Awards in 2005, the annual event has grown to be the iconic Pacific event in the music industry calendar. PURPOSE The Trust is now looking to the strategic future of the Awards event and the programmes, resources and support it will develop to support Pacific artists in their professional development. It is establishing an advisory panel that will provide strategic, high level, advice to the Board and help shape and guide the future direction and work of the Trust to ensure it continues to meet its objectives and serve the needs of Pacific musicians and industry. MEMBERSHIP – PERSON SPECIFICATION The Board is seeking between 8-10 people for the panel. Panel members will be passionate about and committed to the wellbeing of Pacific peoples, with a special interest in the development of our musicians, artists and groups, hold a broad Pan-Pacific perspective, have excellent communication skills, and able to work in an inclusive, collaborative and constructive way. Other skills and experience might include (but are not limited to): ■ Strategic thinking skills ■ Governance experience ■ Business Development, Marketing, Sponsorship experience ■ Excellent understanding of Pacific communities and have good networks ■ Knowledge and experience working in the music industry ■ Well connected or working with Pacific musicians and artists MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES To contribute to development of the strategy and vision Participate in a annual strategic planning workshop Meet with PMAT Board on a quarterly basis to provide advice and guidance, including sharing insights into the music industry, identifying issues, and developments impacting Pacific musicians, artists and organisations, suggesting priorities and exploring solutions. To help extend networks, contacts, and assist with promotional and sponsorship opportunities when appropriate. TIME COMMITMENT Face- to face meetings x 5 per annum. GEOGRAPHIC CONSIDERATIONS Advisory meetings will be face-to-face meetings held in Auckland, however this should not preclude applicants from outside Auckland applying. At this stage, the Trust is unable to cover travel costs so board members outside Auckland would be linked into meetings via SKYPE (so you would need to be able to link in via Skype). Remuneration – None, voluntary capacity SELECTION PROCESS The Board is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI). Applications are open from 1 June until Friday 28th June 2012. Applicants must provide a CV/resume and covering letter relating to the range of skills and experience outlined above. The Board will undertake preliminary screening to identify a shortlist. Successful shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by members of the Board. It is anticipated that Advisory Panel selections will be confirmed by the end of August.
